Happy summer everyone, I am Amy Bush a 5th grade math teacher at Loveland City Schools. I have had the privilege to work with Ms. Heidi Weber and am excited to learn more innovative ways to work with students. Every year it seems students don't just need help with math but how to think through situations/problems differently. I am hoping this text will help build my skills to teach thinking.

Greetings all! While I am facilitating this book study through OCTELA and semester credit through Ashland University, my primary role is Gifted Intervention Specialist with Loveland Schools. I teach 3rd and 4th graders reading and have had the pleasure of exploring one of the key frameworks this book describes... BHH "book-head-heart". My students have transformed the way they think about texts because of this framework! I am so excited to discuss this book with all of you and learn from your insights and expertise!

Hi Everyone - My name is Joy Harrison and I teach 5th grade in the Oberlin City Schools district. I have just completed Heidi Weber's class in Phonics Fundamentals (an excellent course - making phonics relevant to teachers of all grade levels). I picked up Disrupting Thinking because I saw it on so many stacks for summer reading in #Cyber PD and was excited to discover that Heidi is also running a book club. I have read Note and Notice for fiction, and just picked up Note and Notice for nonfiction as well. This is a summer for refining reading instruction. I am looking forward to hearing and sharing insights with the wide variety of dedicated educators that have already joined this group.

My name is Kristin Scherman & I teach HS life science (AP biology, biology & microbiology...yep a lot of biology :)) I LOVE to read in my personal life & find it an asset to my students, especially in being able to understand complex topics in biology. I have really enjoyed the intro & chapter 1 of this book because I am all about reinventing the boring. I have always used reading guides for my ap bio students, to help encourage them to read the content for each unit test. However, after just 1 chapter of this book, I have begun to question this technique and am eager to readjust the assignment. I am thinking that having the students do illustrative examples/diagrams of each chapter may be more powerful. Instead of giving them direct questions, having them create their own study guides and pull out "what they find important" in each chapter would be really beneficial.
